New Delhi, May 10, 2025In a significant development, India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire across land, air, and sea, effective from 5:00 PM IST today. The agreement follows a period of heightened military tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

🔍 Background

The recent escalation was triggered by a terrorist attack on April 22 in Indian-administered Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of 26 tourists. India attributed the attack to Pakistan-based militants, leading to retaliatory strikes. The situation intensified with cross-border missile exchanges and drone attacks, marking the most severe confrontation between the two nations in decades.

The ceasefire was initiated after a direct communication between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries. At 3:35 PM IST, Pakistan’s DGMO, Major General Kashif Abdullah, contacted his Indian counterpart, Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai. They agreed to halt all military actions starting at 5:00 PM IST.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed the development, stating that both sides have committed to stopping all firing and military actions on land, air, and sea.

🌐 International Mediation

Other global leaders, including U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, welcomed the agreement and emphasized the importance of sustained dialogue.

Despite the ceasefire, India has stated that its armed forces remain fully prepared and vigilant. Commodore Raghu R Nair emphasized that while India adheres to the ceasefire, it remains committed to defending its sovereignty and integrity.
